About Me

My photo
My name is Lorie Dominguez. I am happily married with 6 kids. I've lived my whole life here in the Mesquite area. I now live on our little ranch here in Scenic, Arizona with my family and all of our animals. It was here in Scenic that I found my new craft that I really enjoy, that is making crafts with recycled items. This hobby is referred to as "Trash to Treasure", these items are down the right hand column of my blog. I love what I do, and I hope you will also enjoy it! My Items make great gifts! So buy it and try it. You can see pretty much all that I make down the right hand side of my blog. If anyone is interested in placing an order with me, I take checks, cashier check, and money orders. You can place your order in a comment, or email me at Loriejuan@hotmail.com. Thank-you

The Festival of Trees 2011

The theme for this years Festival of Trees was "Toyland". I decided to name my tree, "Toyland goes green".
My ornaments are already out of recycled materials, so we decided if Toyland goes green, all of the toys need to be made out of recycled materials.

My FaNcY Chandelier!

I needed a little bit of extra decoration for my booth. So here is what I came up with.
My hill-billy Chandelier. I think it turned out rather cute:)

Washington County Fair:)

Busy, Busy, Busy,............. That pretty sums up the last few months. I thought I had better post something. I have been doing alot of booths with my Trash to Treasure.
At this event I had lots of space. My friend Bill is in charge of the booths so he hooks me up with an awesome spot each year:)
I love promoting what I do. Kids love the concept of it. That is what makes me want to keep doing Trash to Treasure.
My booth looks like a cluttered mess, but it's really an organized mess:0
I hope everyone is enjoying their kids back in school. Ladies, please take time for yourselves.

Upcycled Levi Bags!

Lately I have been really enjoying making things out of my kids old clothes. These bags are an example of some of the smaller size bags that I make. I got a killer deal at a Joanne's Craft store a couple of months back. I got around 110 different purse handles for $80.00 using clearance and coupons. So I guess I will be making lots of bags:)

Eyeglass Holders

I had a recommendation a few weeks back from a sweet old lady at the Tuacahn Saturday Market. She said "Sweetie, you really should make some eyeglass holders, I would buy one". I thought that was cute, and I couldn't pass up on such a great idea:) So here they are. My daughters both wear glass & love them:)
The cases are lined with felt so the glass wont get scratched. I was surprised how cute they turned out:)

About me:):)

Why did you decide to start blogging? I started blogging because I need an outlet in my life where I share with others what I love to do. I also get lots of ideas on other things I can make.
When you aren't blogging, what are you doing? In my spare time I like to scrapbook, do booths to sell the items that I make, and most important spend time with my kiddos & the old man;)
What is your blog about? My blog is about the items I love making. I try to make everything out of recycled items, that's of course where I got my name Trashtotreasure;)
When do you find the time to blog? I check my blog daily, but have a hard time actually sitting down for too long and doing posts. I am trying to get a little better at it.
Why do you love blogging? So I can share my ideas with others. I love when I am doing my booth and kids come up to me and show me items that they have made. It does my heart good to see kids creating out of "garbage".
What is your favorite post so far that you've written? They are all my favorite;)

Thank-You Sassy Sites for your wonderful "Hello Friend" party!!

Capri Sun Pouch Bags

I love to create out of these wonderful pouches. Bags are one of the things I have been making for a long time. The bags above are Lunch Sacks. They are even insulated.
These above are my purse size. They have a cell phone holder and a built in wallet.
These above are a small purse size. I started out making this size because my niece wanted a scripture holder to take to church. So I made these. They also have a cellphone holder & built in wallet.
These above are a fun little size for girls. A great size to use for a gift bag also.
Above are my wonderful beach bag size. The bags are very sturdy and can hold quite a bit of weight!! As you can tell I love what I do & put a lot of time & effort into my bags. I LOVE TO CRAFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aluminum Can Hair Barrettes

These barrettes have become one of my favorite things to make. The colors are so bright and you can make so many different designs.

I find myself looking around for that perfect can but I have decided my best looking ones come from the Arizona Iced Tea cans. I line the barrettes with foam so they are not sharp then I add a 4 inch barrette on the back. Then they are good to go:)

BottleCap Snakes

I love making these BottleCap snakes. I started out making them when I had all of these extra bottlecaps that were to bent to do anything with. I didn't want to throw them away, so I came up with these slithering snakes.
When I do my Trash to Treasure booth kids go nuts over these, When they are pulled on concrete of tile they really sound like a snake, they are 2 feet long with a 12 inch chain.
This is my boys Jacob & Jeremiah taking their snakes for a walk at the Tuacahn Saturday Market. P.S. If your wondering where I get all of the Bottle Caps, I don't drink it;) I have bars & restaurants that save them for me:)

Aluminum Can Bracelets

Lately I have been doing a lot with aluminum cans. (a material I can afford;) It is great to work with once you get the hang of it. I have been working with it since last October and I haven't cut myself yet. (Knock on wood)
We have been saving pull tabs for a while now and I have lots to work with.
The above bracelet I cut out the designs from my box of can scraps. I hot glued two together so it is not sharp, then I punched a hole in the top with my crop-a-dile. (my favorite tool) Added a jump ring, then added it to the bracelet.
Jazmyn my daughter cant wait to wear these to school. So, I guess I need to make more to sell in my booth. I will just make her help me;)
These are very lightweight to wear also. I hope you have enjoyed them.

Mentos Gum Bag

My daughter Jazmyn has been saving her Mentos gum wrappers so she could make a gum wrapper chain bracelet. The material in the wrappers is not very durable so I came up with this cute bag for us to make.

We cut out our contact paper to the size that we wanted, then stuck the gum wrappers color side down on the sticky part. After that was all done we cut another piece of paper the same size then put it on the back of the wrappers so it's sealed.
Then I just sewed it all together, and grabbed a few cute pieces of ribbon to finish it off. I love how colorful it turned out to be;)

Recycled Soda Boxes

I'm loving these boxes. My kids have been eating a lot of ice cream floats lately, so I have been buying them some of my favorite bottled sodas. I was getting ready to throw the boxes away when I realized how cute they are. Then I postponed my scrapbooking AGAIN... and started making these cute bags. Check them out;)

All that I did was cut up the boxes.. front, back, sides, and bottom. Covered them front and back with contact paper, then sewed them up.
Now, I am saving different bags and boxes because my imagination is running really wild right now!!
If you have any questions please ask in the comments, they are very simple & cute:)

Fun in Pocatello, Idaho!

Our family went to Pocatello, Idaho for the USA Wrestling Regionals. This was my most favorite part of our trip. With all of the hard work that my son puts into wrestling, this part of it makes my day.
I set up my Trash to Treasure booth for 5 days of the tournament. Jazmyn my lovely daughter was a great help to me. She worked the booth like a professional. The kids all loved everything about it. I did good. (I paid for our hotel rooms,YES!!!)
Awe, my husband having a moment with our son Jacob:)
A very big flag. When it dropped down from the ceiling it looked so beautiful. I am so proud to be an American!!
Some of the boys hanging out behind my booth. I love all of our Bulldog wrestlers. We are like a big family. I'm so proud of each & every one of them!
